Do you believe you should give your child an allowance?
We have a few years to think about this at my house and that is a good thing because we are split. My husband says no way and I'm for it. I had one growing up so I see nothing wrong with it.He feels as if you are paying the child off for something they should be doing anyway.

I see nothing wrong with allowances. I think that one should use it as an opportunity to teach your child how to save, invest and spend. Teach them the value of the $.

I think allowances are fine. I used to look forward to my $2 a week!!!

Depends on the age:
my 16 year old 20.00 a week
my 8 year old 5.00 a week

I looked forward to one, but it was very inconsistent. I have to say though that not getting one was a prime motivation for me to get a job as soon as legally possible. I'm kind of suprised when I see so many young people that don't work these days.

Absolutely kids should get an allowance--once they get to an age where they have something to spend it on. I was doing chores from about age 8. I started getting an allowance around age 10, when I could walk to the corner store and buy candy or hop on the bus to go to the movies. Chores should continue as long as the kids are living in your house too...
